Ellerman House Ranked Third in the World’s Best 50 Hotels List for 2024
ELLERMAN HOUSE, A LUXURY HOTEL IN CAPE TOWN, WAS RANKED THIRD IN THE TELEGRAPH’S LIST OF WORLD’S BEST 50 HOTELS FOR 2024. THIS AWARD FOLLOWS SEVERAL OTHER PRESTIGIOUS RECOGNITIONS FOR THE HOTEL.
Ellerman House, a luxury hotel in Cape Town, has earned the No. 3 spot in The Telegraph’s World’s Best 50 Hotels for 2024. This prestigious ranking is another significant accolade for the hotel, highlighting its position as one of the top luxury destinations globally.
The Telegraph, one of the UK’s most respected media outlets, conducted the awards based on reviews from a panel of 24 expert hotel critics. These judges evaluated over 10,000 hotels worldwide, using their expertise and a unique formula to select the best of the best. The panel was split into five regions—Europe, Asia, Americas and Caribbean, Africa, and Oceania—to ensure thorough and diverse input.
Ellerman House secured its position just behind two renowned hotels: the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok and Ballyfin in Ireland. Judges praised the hotel for its array of luxurious amenities, including the iconic sunset terrace and a large pool nestled within its terraced garden. They described Ellerman House as “discreetly glamorous” and crowned it Cape Town’s most exclusive hotel.
Ellerman House: A Haven of Luxury
Known for its prime oceanfront location, Ellerman House offers a blend of opulence and personalized service. The hotel’s suites and villas are renowned for their elegance and privacy. Guests can enjoy a curated selection of in-house experiences, from guided art tours to bespoke wine tastings.
The hotel houses one of Africa’s largest private art collections, offering guests the opportunity to explore African creativity. This year, the collection expanded to include a signature sculpture by the acclaimed artist Willem Boshoff. The Art Gallery, along with the helix-shaped Wine Gallery, invites guests to immerse themselves in art and South African fine wine, respectively.
Carol Kohne, CEO of Ellerman House, expressed her delight at the latest accolade. “We are thrilled by this recognition, especially after our recent refurbishment. It’s a testament to our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to create a unique luxury experience,” she said. Kohne emphasized the honor of being considered one of the world’s top hotels, particularly among Cape Town’s growing luxury hotel scene.
Ellerman House, with its 13 luxury rooms and suites, offers an exclusive experience. Its two award-winning private villas provide a perfect escape for travelers seeking privacy and luxury. The hotel’s spacious lawns, breathtaking sea views, and contemporary cuisine infused with African flavors make it a standout destination.
Recent Upgrades Enhance Guest Experience
In 2024, Ellerman House underwent a soft refurbishment to upgrade select rooms and public areas. The restaurant received a fresh look, while the much-loved Pantry—known for its delicious sweet and savory treats—was revamped. The wellness area also saw the addition of a new ‘Polar Plunge’ pool, enhancing the hotel’s spa offerings.
This recognition from The Telegraph adds to an already remarkable year for Ellerman House. Earlier, the hotel was named Best City Hotel in Africa in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for 2024, further cementing its status as a leader in luxury hospitality.
