Mount Nelson Named Africa’s Best Hotel at Global Awards
THE MOUNT NELSON WAS RANKED 28TH ON THE WORLD’S 50 BEST HOTELS LIST 2024 AND NAMED AFRICA’S BEST HOTEL.
The Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel in Cape Town, has been ranked 28th on the prestigious London Awards list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024. The announcement was made during an awards ceremony at the historic Guildhall in London on Tuesday. This marks the second edition of the global awards, which recognize top hotel experiences from around the world.
The Mount Nelson not only secured a spot on the world ranking but also won the title of Best Hotel in Africa for 2024. Set against the backdrop of Table Mountain, the hotel combines its rich 125-year history with modern luxury. Guests can enjoy the vibrant energy of Cape Town, as the hotel is located near high-end boutiques, lively cafés, and within eight acres of lush gardens.
The Mount Nelson offers guests a variety of unique experiences, from its famed afternoon tea to marine biology adventures. The hotel also collaborates with African creatives and offers dining experiences led by Executive Chef Luke Lawrence Barry. Visitors can easily access Cape Town’s iconic winelands for expert-led tours.
The ranking reflects the finest global travel experiences, as voted by a panel of 600 anonymous experts. These include hoteliers, travel journalists, luxury travellers, and educators, all led by industry-leading Academy Chairs. The panel ranked hotels from across six continents, with 19 spots going to Asia, 13 to Europe, 9 to North America, and 4 each to Africa and Oceania.
Besides Mount Nelson, three other African hotels made the list: La Mamounia (31st) and Royal Mansour (38th) in Marrakech, Morocco, and Singita (44th) in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
