As the highly anticipated Park Hyatt Johannesburg prepares for its grand opening in November 2024, the hotel has officially announced its leadership team. Spearheading the team is General Manager Mitch Gemmell, who brings extensive experience in luxury hospitality. The hotel, featuring 31 opulent rooms, is set to introduce the renowned Park Hyatt brand to South Africa, delivering a superior blend of elegance, sophistication, and personalized service.
The newly appointed leadership team includes experts across various departments—operations, food and beverage, human resources, and marketing—who are committed to creating an exceptional guest experience.
At the forefront of the hotel’s leadership team is Mitch Gemmell, the General Manager. With over 15 years of luxury hospitality experience, Mitch has become synonymous with creating refined and elegant environments. His expertise has been shaped by his work at prominent boutique properties like SeVen Villa Hotel and Spa. His leadership style combines strategic vision with an eye for detail, particularly in food and beverage innovation and operational excellence.

Riannon Rees – Group Executive Housekeeper: With over 25 years in luxury hospitality, Riannon’s vast experience ensures exceptional housekeeping standards across all Hyatt properties in South Africa. She has held leadership roles at prestigious brands like Sun International and InterContinental Hotels, where she honed her expertise in maintaining high operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
Nicholas van der Walt – Group Executive Pastry Chef: Nicholas, an internationally acclaimed pastry chef, brings 18 years of experience to Hyatt Hotels South Africa. His award-winning dessert creations will elevate the dining experiences across the group’s properties. Nicholas is also committed to mentoring the next generation of pastry chefs, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.
Both Riannon and Nicholas will be based at Park Hyatt Johannesburg, while also overseeing operations at Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank, Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton, and Hyatt Regency Cape Town.
