Premier Hotels Opens 4-Star Development in Limpopo
PREMIER HOTELS LAUNCHES LUXURY 4-STAR HOTEL IN LIMPOPO, SPURRING ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE REGION.
Premier Hotels & Resorts has defied the current construction sector slowdown by unveiling its 24th establishment in Thohoyandou, Limpopo. This new 4-star hotel, the largest of its kind in the Vhembe District, aims to fill a gap in the region’s hospitality market. Its location near the Kruger National Park’s Punda Maria gate offers guests an ideal spot to explore the scenic northern part of Limpopo Province.
This hotel is a significant milestone for tourism in the area and will serve as a catalyst for economic development. Positioned on a rise, it offers excellent visibility from the town’s recently built mall, sports stadium, and the University of Venda. Its presence aims to attract trade and investment into Thohoyandou, which serves as a gateway to both the Kruger National Park and Zimbabwe.
Premier Hotels designed the hotel to cater to both institutional travel and local business needs, with a state-of-the-art conferencing venue. The hotel offers 120 rooms and can accommodate up to 450 delegates for conferences or celebratory functions. Amenities include a business suite, bar and restaurant, outdoor pool, gym, and a wine bar.
Premier Hotels to Drive Growth with Limpopo 4-Star Development
The hotel’s COO, Sigal Nassimov-Geva, expressed confidence in the economic potential of the area. “Our decision to move forward with this development reflects our belief in the long-term viability of the region,” she stated. Premier Hotels partnered with African Century Group for construction, focusing on upskilling local workers. This collaboration provided opportunities for local construction workers to gain experience in building a 4-star hote.
Lady Masia, head of African Century Group, emphasized the significance of this project for the local community. “We chose Premier Hotels as the management & marketing company because of their extensive experience in the hospitality industry,” Masia explained. The construction phase created around 480 jobs, ranging from unskilled labor to highly skilled artisans and project managers. Now, the hotel employs 85 permanent workers and 30-40 part-time staff, providing stable employment for local families.
In alignment with the Employment Equity Act, Premier Hotels promotes workplace equity, ensuring equal opportunities for all employees. The company supports gender equity, with women holding 27% of senior management roles, 48.7% of mid-management positions, and 61.6% of junior management roles.
The Chief of Venda highlighted the importance of this privately funded development, which is progressing rapidly with financial backing from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). He noted that no other private developments of this scale have been undertaken in the area.
The hotel’s design blends modern architecture with African flair, featuring a stone facade and environmentally friendly elements. This project is expected to inspire further development in the region and attract more tourists and investors to Limpopo.
