Protea Hotels by Marriott is celebrating its 40th anniversary with significant expansions. The brand announced the opening of its first property in Angola and a new hotel in Pretoria, South Africa. These new locations—Protea by Marriott Luanda and Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield—aim to offer both business and leisure travelers a chance to experience vibrant local cultures and warm hospitality. The new Protea by Marriott Luanda debuts in Angola and it is strategically located between the city center of Luanda and Talatona. This location provides guests easy access to business, sports, and private event venues, as well as leisure spots near the sea. The hotel features a comfortable ambiance with 84 guestrooms and suites decorated with contemporary African-styled terracotta furniture and locally sourced materials. Guests can admire artworks by Guilherme Mampuya, a renowned Angolan artist. The culinary offerings include Múcua, an all-day restaurant serving Portuguese and Angolan cuisines, and a rooftop bar with panoramic views.
