South Africa’s Premier Tourism Event, Africa’s Travel Indaba 2023, Set to Boost Business Opportunities

AFRICA’S TRAVEL INDABA 2023, SOUTH AFRICAN TOURISM’S PREMIER EVENT, WILL FOCUS ON NETWORKING AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXHIBITORS AND BUYERS, CONTRIBUTING TO THE RECOVERY AND GROWTH OF AFRICA’S TOURISM SECTOR.

The Africa’s Travel Indaba, an important event hosted by South African Tourism, is set to take place in Durban from May 8 to 11, and this year, it has a new focus and appearance. During the event’s launch, which was attended by tourism stakeholders and members of the media, the new Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, emphasized the critical role of the Africa’s Travel Indaba in the growth and recovery of the continent’s tourism sector post-COVID-19. With a packed schedule that prioritizes networking for exhibitors and buyers, this year’s event promises to be even more significant than before.

The event will include SMMEs from various South African provinces, as well as well-established businesses from across Africa, who will showcase their products and services. Pre and post tours will be available to some delegates to introduce them to the region’s tourism offerings, which is expected to provide an economic boost to Durban and KZN province. The city is preparing for a hotel occupancy rate of 90%, and projections indicate that the event will contribute over R130 million to the city’s GDP and create over 250 job opportunities.

KwaZulu-Natal is well-prepared to host the event, with over 20 years of experience hosting it, and adequate accommodation options are available. Domestic and international delegates will have easy access to the province, with direct flights to King Shaka International Airport. Additionally, Tourism KZN is working with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the safety of delegates is guaranteed.

During the event’s launch, a panel discussion was held to discuss the Africa’s Travel Indaba’s contribution to the tourism sector’s recovery, with representatives from various industry bodies highlighting the event’s value and inviting buyers and delegates to attend. In 2022, the event attracted over 5,500 delegates from around the world, with 634 businesses exhibiting from 19 African countries, showcasing an array of travel and tourism offerings to regional and international buyers.
