UK-Egypt Trade Ties Strengthen Through Strategic Meetings and Partnerships
THE UK AND EGYPT CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN TRADE TIES THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS. FUTURE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES WILL DRIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN BOTH COUNTRIES.
The Trade Commissioner for Africa, John Humphrey, made his first official visit to Egypt this week. The visit aimed to boost UK-Egypt trade and investment, with a particular focus on green energy, tourism, aviation, and infrastructure development. This visit marks an important step in enhancing the already strong £4.7 billion trade relationship between the two nations.
Strengthening Trade and Investment Relations
During his week-long visit, John Humphrey met with top Egyptian ministers. These meetings included discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, and the Minister of Trade and Investment, Hassan El-Khatib. Their focus was on ways to strengthen the UK-Egypt trade and investment relationship. Both countries are committed to improving economic prosperity by exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
In particular, the talks highlighted the UK’s support for Egypt’s ambitious tourism goals. Mr. Humphrey met with the Minister of Tourism, Sherif Fathy, to discuss the new Liverpool to Luxor flight route, which is expected to boost tourism. Additionally, both sides emphasized the importance of UK investment to enhance Egypt’s tourist experience.
Aviation and Infrastructure Cooperation
Mr. Humphrey’s visit also involved important discussions with Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Pilot Sameh El-Hefny. They talked about UK and Egypt’s future trade collaboration on airport development, a crucial area for Egypt’s infrastructure. EgyptAir’s recent purchase of 10 new Airbus planes, known for their fuel efficiency, was a key topic. The UK remains committed to supporting Egypt’s sustainable aviation sector.
Humphrey also attended Egypt’s International Airshow at El-Alamein International Airport, where he explored potential partnerships. He visited the MCV factory, which produces iconic London double-decker buses for export to the UK, showcasing the existing industrial links between the two nations.
Future Business Opportunities
This visit followed a recent trade mission in June, where 31 UK companies visited Egypt to explore new partnerships. With over 250 meetings held, the delegation laid the groundwork for future investments. Building on these efforts, an Egyptian business delegation, led by the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA), will visit the UK from September 18th to 20th. This visit aims to unlock further investment opportunities in sectors like energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
The UK is committed to enhancing its investment in Egypt, especially in renewable energy and infrastructure, positioning Egypt as a key partner in Africa.
