With support from all sectors, “December in GH” tourist arrivals are expected to exceed their target, according to Emmanuel Frimpong, a tourism consultant and analyst at Pishon Consult Limited. Frimpong emphasized that all sectors of the economy are connected to tourism and must support and promote the industry to create wealth, employment, and opportunities for people.

Frimpong spoke in an interview with the Ghana News Agency and noted that “December in GH” has been a successful event over the years and can attract over one million people if all ministries, departments, and agencies come on board with the needed resources. Last year, over 90,000 people came into the country within weeks, indicating enormous benefits.

Frimpong highlighted that various groups of people visit the country during that time for investment opportunities, relocation opportunities, property purchases, establishing businesses, and employment, leaving behind valuable expertise to impact local communities. Therefore, planning for the “December in GH” events must consider all these aspects to maximize the benefits for the country.

Addressing Challenges and Enhancing Success for “December in GH”

However, Frimpong noted that the initiative had faced several challenges, including late planning of events, limited facilities and equipment, unlicensed events, and security arrangements. He suggested planning for the events should start earlier in the year to allow for engaging the secretariat for conversations and proper coordination.

Moreover, he emphasized that security arrangements must be prioritized, and measures must be implemented to address unforeseen circumstances. Frimpong appealed to the government to partner with the private sector to build the capacities of industry players in specific areas to help organize successful events that meet international standards.

In conclusion, Frimpong believes that creating opportunities for event organizers will benefit the country in income generation, job creation, and investment in all areas. He urged all sectors to support and promote the tourism industry to make “December in GH” more successful.
