Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, inaugurated the Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis Hotel, underlining Egypt’s aim to attract 30 million tourists by 2028.

Egypt’s Ambitious Goals for Tourism Growth

Highlighting a remarkable uptick in tourist arrivals in 2023, Egypt welcomed 14.9 million visitors, surpassing the 2010 record of 14.7 million tourists.

Acknowledging the surge, Issa emphasizes the need for 200,000 new hotel rooms to achieve the 2028 target. Egypt opened 14,209 rooms in 2023, a seven percent increase in hotel capacity, yet more is required to meet the growing demand.

To address this, the ministry plans to add 25,000 new hotel rooms by the end of 2024, enhancing the current capacity of 220,044 rooms.

The Waldorf Astoria Cairo, managed by Hilton, adds 252 units to the market, signaling a positive shift in Egypt’s tourism landscape.

During inaugural ceremony, Issa anticipates substantial growth, emphasizing the hotel’s role in fortifying Egypt’s hospitality sector.

As Egypt invests in expanding hotel capacity, the Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis opening is a significant step towards achieving its ambitious goal of 30 million tourists by 2028.
