JW Marriott is set to open its first luxury safari lodge in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, on April 1, 2023. The lodge will offer guests an immersive experience in the natural environment, with views of the River Talek and access to wildlife, including Africa’s “Big Five” animals. Amenities will include an Adventure Lounge, cultural deck, spa, and 20 private tents with Rituals and Healing Earth amenities.

The JW Marriott brand, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s collection of 30 exceptional hotel brands worldwide, is preparing to reveal its first-ever luxury safari lodge, the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, in the southwestern part of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. This retreat, which will open its doors to visitors on April 1, 2023, will provide guests with a serene and mindful backdrop to explore the Reserve’s incredible vistas, wildlife, and endless plains.

The lodge will be located on the edge of the Reserve, overlooking the River Talek. It will provide a holistic approach to well-being and enrichment while immersing guests in the natural environment. The Masai Mara National Reserve is home to Africa’s “Big Five” animals, including lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinoceros, and elephants. Additionally, between June and September, the Reserve hosts the annual great wildebeest migration, during which over 10 million animals travel 1,800 miles from the neighboring Serengeti in Tanzania.

The lodge’s interiors will be sophisticated and inspired by the surrounding landscape, with warm tones and natural materials that create a sense of tranquility. The lodge will feature several thoughtfully designed spaces, including an Adventure Lounge filled with books, a cultural deck, and a pool deck where guests can gather to share tales of their exploration before engaging in an evening of guided star-gazing. The heart of the camp will be the JW Garden, a space to connect with nature and practice meditative reflection, providing the chefs with locally-sourced, sustainable ingredients for personalized meals, mocktails, and cocktails as daily event programming, including live cooking and chef-led walks.

The Spa by JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will be the essence of relaxation and rejuvenation, offering tailored experiences that nourish the mind, body, and spirit. The spa’s signature treatments will blend locally-inspired techniques and therapies with natural and organic products sourced from the continent’s powerful minerals, oceans, flowers, herbs, fruit, seeds, and oils by the renowned African skincare brand Healing Earth. In addition to the spa, the lodge will feature 20 private tents, each with amenities by Rituals and Healing Earth, including a Honeymoon tented suite with a private plunge pool and two interconnecting canopied suites, each with a private terrace and Jacuzzi overlooking the river and the Mara plains.

Guests can enjoy the sunrise and reflect on the day’s adventure from their tent’s private terrace overlooking the River Talek, a water source and habitat for many wildlife. The lodge will also offer a restaurant, lounge and bar, swimming pool, and fire pit area. Candice D’Cruz, Vice President of Luxury Brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, “the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is a perfect retreat for the mind, body, and soul.” The JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will provide guests with a serene backdrop to make once-in-a-lifetime memories while connecting with nature and leaving feeling revitalized following a holistic, wellness-forward stay.
