New Additions Strengthen Position in Nigeria
In the past year, they inked deals for five new hotels, contributing over 1,000 rooms to the region’s portfolio. Market entries in The Gambia and Nigeria, including the Radisson Blu Beach Resort & Spa in Banjul and Radisson Hotel Benin City, are among these strategic signings.
The signing of Radisson Collection Hotel & Conference Center in Abuja, Radisson Blu Hotel in Abuja CBD, and Radisson RED Lagos VI has significantly bolstered the Group’s stronghold in Nigeria. Doubling the development pipeline within a year, Nigeria now hosts 12 hotels with over 1,700 rooms.
Erwan Garnier on the Success of Radisson Expansion in Africa
Erwan Garnier, Senior Director of Development, emphasizes the role of West & Central Africa in the company’s continental development. Highlighting the significance of the region, Garnier notes, “2023 was a strong year for our expansion, allowing us to strengthen our leading position in Nigeria and enter a new market in The Gambia.”
Garnier underscores the Group’s capability to consistently deliver in key markets, with 4 out of 5 signings under active construction. The focus remains on strategic growth in major African capitals and tourist destinations, with an emphasis on business hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, and mixed-use projects.
Targeted Growth in Key African Cities
The six countries at the forefront of Radisson Hotel Group’s expansion strategy in West and Central Africa are Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). City-wide growth is envisioned in major African capitals, financial centers, and tourist hotspots.
Eight proactive cities, namely Abuja, Lagos, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, Yaoundé, Douala, and Kinshasa, are the focal points for large-scale expansion. The development strategy aligns with business objectives, encompassing a diverse range of offerings.
Progress Towards 150 Hotels in Africa
Maintaining momentum, Radisson Hotel Group achieved eight new hotel signings in Africa in 2023, contributing over 1,600 rooms. This progress propels the Group closer to its goal of reaching 150 hotels in Africa within the next five years.
Over the last three years, Radisson has emerged as the fastest-growing chain, marked by 20 openings across the continent. This remarkable growth, with a 15% annual increase in the African portfolio, signifies a record-breaking achievement for Radisson Hotel Group.
