Cape Town’s iconic landmark, The LENOX, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation into a premier artist residency and boutique hotel, signaling a significant leap forward in South Africa’s cultural landscape.

This is a collaboration between South Africa and France, culminating in the establishment of France’s maiden artist residency on South African soil. This pioneering move reflects a dynamic public-private partnership model.

The LENOX: Revitalizing Cultural Heritage & Empowering Artists

MEMORIST will transform The LENOX into a 47-room boutique hotel. Scheduled for opening in 2026, this restoration project aims to blend upscale luxury with a celebration of cultural heritage.

This project seeks to create a haven for artists, drawing talent from South Africa, the African continent, and France. The establishment will offer a space to nine artists annually, providing them with a platform for expression and cross-cultural dialogue.

The strategic location of The LENOX, a stone’s throw away from the Iziko South African National Gallery and other prominent cultural institutions, ensures that artists and guests alike can fully immersed in the vibrant cultural tapestry of Cape Town.
